Viruses, Spyware, Adware And Alike: How Can You Totally Protect Your Computer?

We all love our computers, right? It doesn't matter if you are using an IBM ThinkPad or a neat Mac PowerBook; the chances are this is your best friend. I know first hand that I can't survive without mine. Hey, my writing career depends on it. I'm certain there are many others who share my opinion/viewpoint. We've pretty much conformed to the computer age and I can't see any of us wanting to revert back to the old-school methods. This is the exact reason why I take my computer's health very seriously in deed. The last thing I want is for my computer to fall victim to one of the many viruses and forms of spyware and adware out there. So, this is where virus and spyware scanners come in to play. Are you performing a regular scan on your PC? If not, it's about time you did.

Around pre 2000, I had never heard anything about computer virus and spyware scanners and on top of that I knew very little about computers in general. I really couldn't tell you what software did what or how to differentiate between a USB port and a LAN connector. And I had hardly ever used a browser. When I think back, it was sad really, I just didn't know what I was missing. Fortunately I signed up for a couple of computer courses and got to know the basics. It was refreshing to know the different hardware parts that make up a computer and how to use the most important software packages. The fact is we all should know these things now days. Computers are way too great an asset to be left in the dark on this topic. Anyway, I currently use a desktop computer that I built, with the windows operation system installed and a MAC notebook computer, both on a daily basis. The desktop with windows on is really more for play and my hobbies in general. Where as my Mac is more for my work. I never have a problem with viruses, spyware and adware on my Mac, but I'm afraid that I can't say the same thing for my desktop running windows. It is constantly picking up viruses, spyware and alike. I am always seeing my virus and spyware software popping up to tell me that it has encountered spyware or a virus trying to access my computer. It is just as well that I keep up to date spyware and virus software on my computer, but it does sadden me to know that my computer is affected by viruses and spyware. I just wish it could be more like my Mac. But as long as I keep my virus and spyware software up-to-date and keep up on my reading about spyware, viruses, adware and alike on a good content web site dedicated to this subject, I know that I shouldn't have too many problems with them. You should up date your software at least every week and preferably every day!

About once a month it is always a good idea to do a full scan of your hard drive/s, by doing so you can be certain that nothing that your software knows to be a virus or form of adware/spyware will be missed. This can take a little bit of time, especially if you have a lot of data on your drive/s, so don't expect it to be completed within a few seconds. Take care of your PC or suffer the consequences of a crashed system.
