Finally, the conclusions concerning the effectiveness of this program are drawn.

The Food Stamp Program which consists in rendering basic food assistance, turned out to be a real savior for a lot of people. This program is defined as one of the most important components of the social safety net. The idea of this program was used for the first time in the end of 1930s; in the period from 1939 to 1943 it was limited, then in the year 1961 it was reconsidered and the program became a pilot program. Later it was applied in the whole country. In 1977 the current structure of this program was implemented. It had a definite aim : to help hungry and needy people with low income to increase the level of nutritious diet by means of normal trade channels. Later The Food Stamp Program grew to one of the largest humanitarian programs in the United States. In the year 1998 the program was supporting more than 19.8 million people monthly what in percentage terms makes 7.3 % of all American people. The needy people received during this year a considerable amount of help – over 16.9 billion dollars.
