Ethical Principles of Seven Virtues Christian Counseling and ACA

All types of counseling need both an ability to apply different psychological methodologies and to guide the patient, hear we speak of ethical issue.

American Counseling Association has worked out for its members a number of principles they have to follow facing an ethical issue. Such principles were also devised for counseling in the religious sphere.

The basis of ethical principles of American Counseling Association and Seven Virtues Christian Counseling consists in the requirements for no malfeasance, working in the interests of the client, preserving confidentiality, and not overstepping the limits of one's competence.

While American Counseling Association recommends a higher degree of autonomy Christian counseling presupposes suffering together with the client. Such tactics makes the counselor associated with the problems of the client (it helps to feel deeply the emotional state of the patient), that's why he/she has to be psychologically strong.

The main difference between the American Counseling Association and Christian counseling lies in the attitude of the counselor to the client. Christian counseling advocates treating the patients as equal to him while the American Counseling Association doesn't consider such treatment of client to be obligatory.

These moral principles are connected with the traditions written in the Bible and represent such counseling which a religious counselor would give to people requiring such services. At the same moment, the American Counseling Association services are more appropriate for people doing business or some how connected with business environment because its principles are more neutral.
